Why Are We Doing This?

The old method of having everyone's email in every email we send is

error-prone and difficult to administer. For example, people might

somehow fall off the list and then they don't get emails. In order to

get them back on, we have to make sure we reply-all to the message that

has all the emails. In addition, if someone doesn't want to be on the

email list, we have to make sure and reply-all to yet another message to

make sure they aren't getting emails anymore.

The new method puts the sign-up and sign-off in the hands of the user.

Also, we only have to send messages to a single address

voltrons at googlegroups.com to communicate with the whole group, which

is nice. But you have to be a member to send or read emails. We just implemented an approval process - basically say you aren't going to spam the group and you are accepted.
