So you want to know how it all started, huh? Celeste Tavera, Sarah Faehnle, and Anise Hotchkiss first met on March 1, 2005. Ryan Parks would have been there, except he had to work until 11pm that night, and it was his birthday no less (at the time I was working at Pricewaterhouse Coopers, this is way too much info on me, but I'm writting the first draft so you have to suffer my commentary until someone else deletes it). Before that, there was no official "young" adults or 20's and 30's group at St. James. For the next month or so, there was one meeting a week with about 3 to 5 people showing up. Early members from this time period also included Tim Faehnle, Cam Houser, and Ryan Parks (none of these members has any sort of seniority or special powers, except for x-ray vision). At this point, the group met at the Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse.

In early April 2005, after the meetings were announced regularly at church services and through word of mouth, an incredible gathering of about 14 people showed up at one of the meetings. As an ice-breaker, everyone gave their name and also their favorite cartoon show from growing up. Someone (I think it was Cam) said that Voltron was his favorite show. For more about the show, check Wikipedia or this fan site that is funny, but has some crude language.

Anyway, after a great meeting, in which everyone wrote down their email, Ryan sent out an email to the group and asked everyone to help come up with a name. Two of the suggestions he came up with were the St. James Young Adults (SJYA) and as a joke, the Voltrons. No one replied to this email with any other suggestions, so Ryan started refering to the group as the Voltrons in an effort to force people to think up a better name for the group. Somehow the name stuck and the group has been the Voltrons ever since.
